Welcome to the world of [BLACK] – the first and only workshop in the world where basalt fibres are tamed to transform them into furniture. [BLACK] furniture is characterised by its unique modern design, which is suitable for a variety of high-end residential and contract applications, both indoors and out. Moreover, thanks to it’s basalt structure, [BLACK]. furniture is very durable and has a long, long lifetime (between 30-50 years outdoors). At the end of its life, [BLACK], furniture can be recycled.
We’re really excited to be working with [BLACK]. from Latvia, and their prodigious designer Raimonds Cirulis. [BLACK]. make some extraordinary furniture & accessories for the garden & home. [BLACK]. extensively uses Basalt fibres for many of the pieces, a material that was initially Top Secret, and only then used by the military. Basalt fibres are tactile, highly durable and versatile.
Basalt fibres originally come from USA, where the firsts attempts to create them were made as early as 1923. After World War II, they were largely used in USA as well as Europe and the Soviet military for aircraft production, and until 1995 the material was barely known to the general public due to its confidential classification.
